Stephanie Wetter serves as the Director of Animal Welfare for the National Pork Board, where she leads efforts to advance science-based animal care practices and ensure producers have the tools and resources they need to provide the highest standards of welfare for their pigs. With a background in animal science, livestock behavior, and pork production, she collaborates with industry experts, veterinarians, and researchers to drive continuous improvement in sow housing, handling, and overall pig well-being. Her work also emphasizes producer training and transparent communication across the pork supply chain to protect producer freedom to operate and maintain consumer trust in U.S. pork. 

Background

Before joining the National Pork Board in 2018, Wetter served as the Animal Care Coordinator at Cactus Family Farms. In this role, she oversaw on-farm auditing for animal handling, farm processes and transportation, as well as developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and delivering producer training. Her previous experience also includes serving as Research Coordinator for Swine Graphics Enterprises and Director of Wean-to-Finish Operations at Illini Farms.

Industry Involvement

Wetter has been an active member of the American Society of Animal Science since 2007 and the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists since 2016. She is also an active member of the Calhoun County Pork Producers Association.
