Dr. Meredith Petersen

Director of Swine Health

Dr. Meredith Petersen joined the National Pork Board in 2024 as director of swine health. She oversees the Secure Pork Supply and Certified Swine Sample Collector programs and supports the development of a National Swine Health Strategy. In this role, she collaborates with others on the Swine Health and Production Team on projects related to both foreign and endemic disease.

Background

Prior to joining NPB, Dr. Petersen was a postdoctoral research associate at the Swine Medicine Education Center (SMEC) — a role focused on applied swine research, teaching and clinical swine medicine. Her Ph.D. research with SMEC investigated the capabilities and limitations of telemedicine in swine practice.

Industry Involvement

Dr. Petersen is active in many industry groups, including memberships with the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Swine Veterinarians and the United States Animal Health Association. She co-chairs the AASV Telehealth Task Force and serves on several AASV committees.
